June 28th, 2010 – Change of Gavel / Paul Harris Awards / Service Above Self Awards / Community Service Awards at Phil Sullivan’s Residence

The Northampton Rotary Club presented several awards to area residents on Monday, July 28 during its annual Paul Harris dinner.  Named for Rotary's founder and first president, this year's awards were given to Rotarian, Realtor and City Councilor David Murphy and Yoko Kato, internationally recognized leader in the campaign against domestic violence.

Northwest District Attorney Elizabeth D. Scheibel and Sheriff Robert J. Garvey were recognized with Service Above Self Awards in honor of their decades of dedicated service and advocacy in our community.

Deputy Sheriff David Fenton and Sylvester's and Roberto's owners Peter St. Martin and Maureen McGuinness were honored with the club's Community Service awards.

Rotary International is the world's first service club organization, with more than 1.2 million members in 33,000 clubs worldwide. Rotary club members are volunteers who work locally, regionally, and internationally to combat hunger, improve health and sanitation, provide education and job training, promote peace, and eradicate polio under the motto "Service Above Self".

Through its focus on children in our community the Northampton Rotary Club's fundraising efforts support programs to provide warm winter coats for needy children in Northampton Schools, summer athletic teams and local Boy Scouts troops.

The Northampton Rotary Club wishes to thank member Phil Sullivan for his great generosity in hosting the event at his home again this year.
